London City Escape: Amba Hotel Charing Cross

I absolutely adored being in London. What made my holiday in this city even better was that I stayed at the Amber Hotel Charing Cross.

Erect a rich and stately carved cross,

Whereon her statue shall with glory shine;

And henceforth see you call it Charing Cross

– George Peele (1593)

The location

This 4-star deluxe hotel is conveniently located in proximity to some of the major tourist attractions such as Trafalgar Square, London Eye, the Thames, The National Gallery, the theatres, Covent Garden etc. It was an easy walk – even in the peak of winter. With its superb location, adjacent to the Charing Cross railway station, this hotel has stood as a monument to the power and confidence of the Victorian era. For this reason, it is a Grade II listed building. From the hotel restaurant, you can spot the Eleanor Cross (erected in memory of King Edward I’s wife Eleanor) and a great view of the city.

Trafalgar Square

I enjoyed being in West End London. I especially loved The National Gallery where I went every day to revel in the beautiful paintings (over 2,300!). There was so much to see, therefore staying at the Amba Hotel Charing Cross gave me the opportunity to take in all the sights without having to compromise on time. I could get so much done because I would be there within minutes on foot! The one time I had to meet friends was easy too because the train station and undergrounds are so near.

The room

I did not get to see all the rooms, but from what I can tell you about my own room (Executive King), there is no doubt that all the rooms are comfortable and make you feel at home immediately. Going up the beautiful staircase delighted me – it was as if I had stepped into some King’s quarters. And once inside the room, you feel transported to a serene, calm and lovely place where you can safely rest. All the amenities and room features indicate that there’s a great deal of attention to the guest’s comfort and convenience. With free Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine, a rainfall shower, heated towel rack, 24-hour room service and soft linen on comfortable beds, it is a wonder I even left the hotel to go sight-seeing! I was offered a lovely welcome pack upon arrival, with delicious snacks to nibble on and a welcome card which to this day is still among my London travel memorabilia. The personalized touch certainly does make one feel very special. This comes as no surprise why this hotel is rated #4 out of 1029 hotels in London on Trip Advisor.

The restaurant

The encouragement to leave the room was huge and well worth it: dining at The Terrace restaurant with spectacular views over The Strand. The food was amazing. I only ate there in the morning as I was out after that. I helped myself to a traditional English breakfast each morning and good English tea. I noticed there were a lot of businessmen staying at the hotel – the location sure makes it convenient for meetings and business. Still, I felt very at ease throughout my stay with the staff being so attentive and friendly. Besides excellent meals, guests may also indulge in decadent treats for Afternoon Tea.
